  1. Absolutely not.

There are two basic types of working relationship: an employment relationship; and a commercial relationship. Freelancers ('contractors') use the latter: they are paid to provide services on a commercial basis, under a “contract for services”; they do not enter into employment relationships or work using “contracts of service”.

Some companies attempt to hire workers to work as employees, but using commercial contracts: this creates a “disguised employment” relationship in which the end-user can both control and dismiss the worker easily, while the worker has no protections or freedoms. Good contractors (and the Professional Contractors Group who represent them)  oppose the use of disguised employment relationships, urging companies not to use them and would like the law to be clarified so that they are not possible.

Legitimate contractors, on the other hand, provide an extremely valuable serive to the economy and allow both themselves and their clients to access the high quality services they need on a commercial basis that creates employment and opportunity for everyone.

  2. In the true sense of the word they ar not employed, rather sub-contracted. So the time sacale would be in the contract. It might be full time for a certain period or part term for a period. They may be sub-contracted for a certain task or for some other reason.

  3. Sub-contractors are usually employed on a full time basis to save time and costs looking for them. In fact they are specialist in their particular trade. And they can be considered as a company's human capital if they are employed as its permanent staff.
