  1. No, it's a big ball of gas and a star.

  2. No, it doesn't do anything but illuminate the sky. It is just a ball of gas and fire that will eventually go out.

  3. Well in a practical matter, no. Its a big ball of fussing nuclear power. But on a diffrent level, maybe. It does give life to every living thing that humans have ever laid eyes on.

  4. I would say yes, because the sun can make its own "food" (energy) by nuclear fusion and it gives off waste (light and heat).

  5. In the scientific community, there is a list of requirements in order to classify as whether something is living or not, there are generally five on them, depending on whether or not the category is split up.

1.) Nutrition- living organisms need to feed, whether they are autotrophic or heterotrophic

2.)They move (in a directed or controlled way) and they also grow  (to some sort of maturity)

3.)They are able to reproduce either through sexual or asexual reproduction

4.)Respiration, which is a set of chemical reactions which end up in the release of energy frorm food.  This is done through either aerobic or anaerobic respiration.

5.)Living things respond to stimulii, as well as excrete waste products from their body.

Now according to this set of criteria, i think it is safe to save that the sun is not a living thing.  It is actually a humongous ball of gas constantly undergoing fission and fusion.  It does grow, but will eventually, like any other star, which by the way, that is what our sun is, will collapse in on itself.

    Hope this helps!!

  6. I would say no, considering the fact that the Sun is made up of gas and not cells, which are the basic unit of life.

  7. No, the sun is made up of hydrogen gas that is compressed so tightly in the core of the sun that nuclear fusion occurs, producing helium, extreme heat, and light. There's nothing living about it.
