Are sunflower leaves edible?

Can sunflower leaves be consumed by humans by cooking? Web searches aren't revealing any recipes, but I thought I saw some months ago.

I know the leaves and stalks are ground up as fodder. And the leaves can be used as a healing poultice, or as a tea.

But can the leaves be eaten?

  1. Yes, there are edible. You can cook the leaves as you would spinach, you should cook it because you don't know what's been on them. Beetles, bugs, even mosquitoes. The bacteria needs to be cooks off. However, they are edible, My brother is a botanist, and i just asked him for you, lol. He says they are edible, but make sure they're heated to at least 160 degrees fahrenheit to cook off any un-safe bacteria.

But yes, they are edible, he says he's not sure how it tastes. He was going to eat them, but he woke up, and caterpillars eat most of the leaves, and there were holes in them, so he didn't. Lol.

But yeah, they are consumer friendly.

  2. Not sure, but never thought of it! good question!

oh yea, by the way, what is the tea used for? is it herbal or just like a drink?
