Are tap water pipes clean?

like from the kitchen sink in example, when water runs through the pipes is it still clean? what about all the underground pipes?

How did I survive all these decades without bottled water?  We drank from the hose in the yard when we were kids, and the bathroom faucett with our hands for cups in the middle of the night.  I have great teeth, strong bones and few wrinkles.  That was the only water I ever drank, and I think the plastic in the bottled water to be more dangerous.  Not to mention wasteful since they end up floating in the ocean for centuries killing animals, or permanently enshrined in the city dump, never decaying, and that is scary!  How many bottles do you use a day??  Ever refill any?  The water from your sink may be a lot cleaner than the bottled water, since no US Government entity has jurisdiction over the processors.

it would have to be or the government agencies that oversee construction and plumbing wouldn't allow it ...most newer homes and buildings are using plastic piping over copper

All tap water must meet the specifications of the Health Dept. and DNR or equivalent in your area.  Samples are analyzed frequently from each well that serves your municipality to check for bacteria, minerals, and other contaminants.  The constant circulation of the water in the pipes in the street (they are actually a big loop) keep them flushed out and clean.  The water you use keeps your pipes clean as well.  

If you are concerned about your tap water, use a filter.  Most bottled water, notably Aquafina and Dasani, are filtered tap water, but they cost a lot more than the water from your tap, don't they?  You are perfectly safe drinking your water.  Hope this helps.

Yes you can drink tap, nothing is wrong with it, as long as you don't have well water. You will be fine. Drink it before you get dehydrated and get diarrhea!

In any case use a simpler filter or boil it before drinking...
