is this true?

can tattoos harm you at all? also are they prone to infection, like piercings?

i would make sure to care for my new tattoos but can they still harm you?

i didn't know this and it's made me really worried.

also, whilst i'm asking... do they hurt a lot? i know it's different for everyone but i'd like a rough idea of what to expect.

cheers

Amie

  1. Any procedure to the body carries some risk.  The best way to avoid problems with tattoos is to either not get any, or go to a reputable parlor that uses new clean needles on each person.

I got a tattoo on my ankle 10 years ago, and have never been sick or had a problem with it.  At first it bled, but that was expected.  I couldn't shave the area for about 2 weeks.  After the scab part fell off and everything healed, my tat looked great.  10 years later, it still looks new, because I take care of it.

If you are going to get a tat, make sure you do your research about the artist and the parlor.  Talk to other people in town that had work done there and see what they say.  Make sure you are in optimal health as well.  Don't take any aspirin or other blood thinners the week before you go in.  Follow all instructions given to you, and your tat will look great for years and years.

    Have fun!

  2. I'm sure they can harm you but if you go to a reputable place and ,make sure the needles aresterilized I'm sure you will be fine as for ink poisoning i don't think so, it use to be a problem before because there was lead in the ink but they have new inks that are better for you.  tats are not as bad for infection as piercing. and yes it hurts but it all depends on where you are getting it. everybody told me "omg they hurt so much like on the foot is like the worst i heard......blah blah" any who i have 3 one on my back one on my shoulder and one on my foot! and of all the back on hurt the most my foot one i never even felt and i though like omg this is going to hurt but no it felt great actually and I'm not lieing i seriously never felt much of it at all. but it just depends your pain tolerance level to, but good luck if you get one!! make sure you really want it. you don't want to be asking a question like " where can you get tattoos removed in________" so be sure you want it and that you are sure about it!!

  3. Sometimes they can harm you. Think about it, you're being jabbed with a needle 100's if not 1000's of times! You can get a minuscule piece of dirt in it and you can get infections. You can get all sorts of infections from the needle.

but all in all, they're pretty safe if you take care of them, and yourself. Only go to a reputable salon.

At least you're asking questions which is a good thing!!

And the hurt factor, think of having sunburn, and someone scratching you with a thorn. It also depends on where you get it. Bony areas hurt more than padded areas, so the foot will hurt more than the arm for example. But, this does vary from person to person.

    Good luck!

  4. Pamela Anderson has Hepatitis and she got it from a tattoo needle. She has to deal with that the rest of her life because it doesn't go away. So yeah it can cause health problems.

  5. Go to a reputable artist that uses disposable needles. Check the license. It's supposed to  be on the wall. Ask questions. There are no dumb ones. There are risks. But they are small if you do your homework. There is pain. Small detail hurt worse than bigger stuff. It also has to do with how heavy handed the artist is. I have 5 tattoos, my husband has 3, my oldest son has9, my youngest son has4. We've never had any problems with any of our tattoos. Good luck.
