Question:

Are teachers really uptight?

I mean certain ones. Last year I had to go to the staff room and like a fool I accidentally walked in without knocking. Well this overly dramatic math teacher got all mad and I was trying to explain what I needed to be there for and this other teacher got up in my face and told me to get out. I had to talk to my art teacher about something, who didn't get mad at all. The others were math teachers so maybe that had something to do with it. I find it kind of stupid that they overreacted. I mean yeah I did something wrong but all they had to do was ask me to knock. Students respect teachers more if they respect them as well. Yeah I made a mistake, I'm human. They didn't have to throw a hissy fit about it. The reason why I walked in there is because I have this really quiet knock and nobody hears it. Well it would be quiet having to grow up with a dad who drank and was abusive who got pissed over the littlest c**p all the time. So anyways are teachers just really uptight people?

  1. not all of them are uptight, but a lot are unfortunately...

they're stressed out because they have to reach deadlines, some might have had a bad day with a difficult student, and unfortunately because of that, it can take the tiniest most innocent of actions to set them off in a rage...

it's an unpleasant thing about teachers, but they're only human too...i'm sorry you had to be caught in the middle of their stress, but it happens to us all at some point...

  2. Sometimes people overreact.  You should have opened the door without entering and lightly tap and say, "Excuse me".  This would have been less intrusive.  Learn from your mistake and move on.

  3. No, not all of them.  But some are.  And some are just uptight about certain things... like their sacred staff room.  When they've spend all day in a classroom full of students, working and teaching and disciplining, they look forward to that quiet sanctuary where they can relax and talk to other adults for a few minutes.  So when a student walks in unannounced, it's like an invasion of their personal space.  Of course, that doesn't mean they have to get all in your face about it... but that's just the way some people are.

  4. This was 100% your fault. It has nothing to do with teachers being uptight. You should never walk into the staffroom without knocking.

  5. No.  Teachers are people just like everyone.  Some are laid back some are uptight.  Don't let it bother you people over react all the time.
