Are teenage tribes, like emos, scene kids etc more common in provincial small towns?

Are they the product of growing up with provincial boredom and apathy? You don't see them so much in big cities.

No they are more in bigger cities. They are just every. I would think in smaller towns they would not be exposed to that

i live in aberdeen, just over quater of a million people! and every where i look someone belongs to a type of group!, wether it be the uncommon becoming more common groups like emos, goths etc  or the more common preppy ponces that love to shop or the barbie girls or the groups of mothers etc! groups will change! 100 years ago groups were based on class and religion! now its on music and clothes!

the size of the town/city doesnt matter.

they ALL fall under certain group which shares some commonalities but in teenage years these similarities are mostly in fashion and behavior.

As they grow older, the classification is based upon social status and money more than its based upon music taste and hairstyles. And this happens in every town in every country. Just because the 'emo tribe' is more destinctive doesnt mean that other groups are less popular.

teenagers have always hearded together in groups, its human nature, especially at that age, the need to belong and recieve positive affimmation is at its strongest, dont think it matters bout location, poss more visible in smaller towns, especially because theres less to do, and fewer places to lurk
