Are telekinesis and poltergeists connected?

People on here are always saying that poltergeists are not spirits..it's the bad energy of stressed or angry people who cause the things to happen that we think are poltergeist spirits. THEN...wouldn't that be a kind of telekineses?? If the people are causing these things to fly off the wall etc...then what's the difference.? Actually, I think a poltergeist is a kind of spirit..maybe an angry one. But, this question is for the people who say it's caused by stressed or angry people. So..what do you think? Is it telekineses?

  1. We had a poltergeist.

A few nights ago my wife went to the toilet wearing a mud pack and curlers.

I heard this blood curdling scream - the front door slamming - and we haven't seen it since!

  2. First, I always feel obligated to correct the blatant lies posted by some YA skeptics in particular the much repeated one "there is no evidence" for PK.

I have provided links below to the scientific research and literature for the evidence of PK.

How good or bad that evidence may be is an actual science based argument but to to deny the evidence's existence is just dishonest.

Second, psychokinesis (PK) is simply the term used in the current scientific research literature for what used to be called telekinesis (TK) so yes poltergeist activity could be telekinesis (older term). Also, it's not just stress or anger it is more precisely unexpressed emotional conflict that the theory suggest is the cause.

Third, the difference is one is from a living human and one is from a spirit/ghost and this has implications as to how you deal with the situation.

For example family counseling has laid to rest almost all poltergeist activity it has ever met. This is treating a human problem.

Skeptics may rightly claim that this could also be evidence for it being people seeking their family's attention and in some cases I agree that this is the case. Other cases seem not to fit this explanation quite as well.

Blessings and other religious rituals (the treating the spirit approach) in many cases have increased poltergeist activity and have a far worse record than counseling at ending poltergeist activity.

Dr. Ian Stevenson most known for his research on reincarnation did express an opinion on poltergeist that does favor a spirit hypothesis.

STE5. Are Poltergeists Living or Are They Dead? by Dr. Ian Stevenson. (Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research 66:233-252, 1972.) Brief report of 3 cases involving unexplained movements of objects and (in 2 of the cases) associated apparitional experiences.

  3. A poltergeist is a spirit, a free thinking spirit, what spirits are, but not all of them are bad negative energy. We fear what we don't understand.

People automatically assume spirits are evil.

Telekinesis does not come from a spirit, it comes from a human. Supposedly if there is a recorded case about the subject.

Spirits don't use Telekinesis to move anything, They use electromagnetic fields to produce energy.  Why they use an EMF reader to record activity.

If your interested in the subject read a book, understand it better.

  4. The possibility that telekinesis and poltergeists being connected would mean that one would have to disprove the other. Effectively this would cancel out a whole area of pseudo-science and some major religions.

Poltergeists are generally thought to be unstable spirits or demonic forces, if they were actually the product of an unstable person with the power of telekinesis - that would put exorcisms out of business disproving evil and make more money for psychiatrists.

On the other hand, since telekinesis cannot be measured (or hasn't been measured) it would reason that the energy would be of a paranormal nature - one that can't be measured. So we could say that someone who displayed telekinesis actually had a spirit or spirits doing their bidding - a highly controversial theory but interesting nonetheless.

Since skeptics believe that both of these are made up and exist only as myth and products of mentally unstable minds, it would be hard to prove that both are connected.

Most telekenisis you see on YouTube or on the web is probably staged - unless it were posted by the scientific journals, we're not allowed to believe in it.

  5. I always saw a poltergeist as a source of dark energy that was here to corrupt the lives of human beings.  Telekinesis is more of a human-like trait that can be caused by free will. Telekinesis can be manipulated and controlled while poltergeists can't.  I wouldn't be surprised if both telekinesis and poltergeists are dependent on each other though.  But who I am I to say what is this and what is that?  I am only 17 years old and have yet to experience any paranormal activity in my life.

  6. Their connection is that they are as unreal as each other.

  7. Reports of poltergeists date back to  the year 530. It appears king theodoric was troubled with stones being hurled by an invisible assailant. - Small pebbles or shells being thrown about are a classic case.

In January 1905 a farm at Binbrook Lincolnshire suffered small fires which were quickly put out, but were seen to sprout by themselves. A strained young woman was the focus, but did not seem to be near them when they happened.

In 1967, the 'Rosenheim Affair' in Germany was a series of office related problems. - Electrical equipment and phones behaved badly and without reason, lights swung violently, and photocopiers spewed ot paper. A young woman - with a  nervous disposition seemed to be unconciously causing this , as the events stopped when she left.

From my opinion, I believe it is an uncontrolled form of PK - often seen in adolescents with a lot of pent-up angst. People who bottle-up emotions sometimes manifest PK, and it is known that true magic requires tapping in to this emotional powerhouse.

This I believe is also possible from the spirit side, as being a sprit unable to communicate would be very frustrating too, and may just be a by-product from a general haunting.

  8. Telekinetic energy is the only known way to obliterate poltergeists. Therefore if these poltergeists used the energy they themselves would pass from limbo.

  9. Deenie, there is a belief that seems to be common nowadays among parapsychologists and paranormal enthusiasts that ostensible poltergeist activity is a result of Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis (RSPK), a fancy name for telekinesis unknowingly being caused by a person nearby. Of course, neither poltergiest activity nor telekinesis have any compelling evidence going for them, so this belief should only be considered as conjecture. It's an interesting thought, but there isn't any scientific evidence for it.

You can find many pages on RSPK on the web. I added one article from a parapsychology journal below for your information but that is definitely not an endorsement of the quality of information you may find there. The link was causing an error, but you can Google it and find it on the web.

EDIT: I do feel obligated to correct the blatant misinformation (I will not return his lack of civility by calling it "lies")  by a certain paranormal evangelist. His chosen mantra is that skeptics lie when they say that there is no evidence for telekinesis. The real situation is not nearly as simplistic as he would want you to think. The truth is that there is some evidence for telekinesis -- it's just that it is extremely poor quality and hasn't convinced many scientists. It certainly hasn't convinced me and I am quite familiar with it. The issue is not whether the experiments were done, but of the quality and controls on the experiments and the quality of data analysis. There IS poor evidence for telekinesis, but as I said above, there is no _compelling_ evidence for telekinesis, which remains a fact. If it weren't, telekinesis would no longer be in the realm of the paranormal. Further, there is no scientific evidence at all for a connection between RSPK and poltergeists, and again I can stand behind this claim as well. I'll change my mind when someone can demonstrate the existence of RSPK, demonstrate the existence of poltergeist activity, and then empirically support a causal mechanistic link between them. I would not encourage anyone to hold their breath :)

    Love the truth :)

  10. This idea comes from several cases where young females entering puberty experienced poltergeists. One case I read in the late 80s in Omni magazine, the other was on the internet. Its possible they were the same story, sorry for my lack of good references. Anyway, The media made a big hype and the idea that the girls were causing the poltergeist through telekinesis became popular. In both the cases I read it turned out in the end that the girls were eventually caught faking the poltergeist.

However, nobody reads the retractions. The kids were seeking attention and found that they could pull lamp cords, or turn out lights when noone was looking and they were believed.

I would not say this makes up the majority of poltergeist cases, just a small handful of famous ones.

We have poltergeist activity in my house, even though I don't believe its a spirit. It sounds like someone moving around and at times rummaging through stuff when nobody is around.

My wife lived here before we got married and she would not go upstairs alone. I understand why now that I live here.

  11. A poltergeist type haunting usually involves teenaged girls and high limestone deposits.I grew up in a house with at least 1 spirit in it.Parents wouldn't believe my sister and I until we captured it on film.It was the previous owner whom died in the house before we bought it.He had 3 daughters that told us to throw all his belongings in the trash. He had really nice stuff, too.Three weeks after we moved in,all 3 daughters died in a fire in Pittsburgh.I had friends run screaming from my house in the middle of the night after watching "Frank" materialize right in front of them.Creepy ,creepy house!
