Question:

Are the Adelaide Crows hypocrites with their treatment of Scott Welsh?

The Crows have recently parted ways with Scott Welsh because he wanted more than the 1 year contract with conditions and they weren't willing to give him longer. The conditions were apparently around some off-field incidents of which we have heard a little here in SA. Simon Goodwin on the other hand, was previously involved in threatening a photographic journalist who was taking pictures in a public venue, then admited to placing wagers on games with bookmakers, and the Crows made him stand in captain for when Ricciuto was out injured and will probably have him as captain for 2008. Does anyone else see the problem, or am I making too much out of it? PS I am neither a Crows or Power supporter, but live in SA so get all the media saturation of the two teams.

  1. I also live in SA and am sick of the coverage that's why I buy the Herald/Sun on the weekends, but back to your question, you are right, there is definitely a rule for some and rules for others.

I think they have the wrong coach for one, I believe they are going to sacrifice season 08' in order to have some good draft picks so they can better bargin at the next draft (08').

Scott is/was their third highest goal scorer, so good luck to him at the Bullies, but then again I really don't care how they or the Power go in 08' as long as they lose.

By the way I support Melbourne.

  2. The difference between Simon Goodwin and Scott Welsh is that Simon plays a full season, whereas Scott is a half a season player. Scott Welsh is prone to injuries and The Crows wanted to give him a 1 yr contract based on each game played. Why pay huge amounts of money to a player who in the last 3 yrs has not been fit to play all season. I agree with The Crows board, they needed to do something dramatic as such. Scott Welsh had to give in.

Good luck to Scott and all the best to him. And Good luck to The Bulldogs, cause they will pick up a player on a 2 yr contract, who may play half a season.

  3. I totally agree, so many double standards!!

Its just embarrassing for the club (and not just the Crows) when they punish one player more harshly than another purely based on how valuable the player is or how popular they are.

  4. Scott Welsh, has a great claim to fame as a former KANGAROOS premiership player in 1999.     Ater moving to Adelide in 2000, and winning a few club, goal kicking awards, he has become, basically UNKNOWN in Victoria .   I think he once kicked 5 goals for Adelaide in a game against Melbourne, but then most clubs have a player who can do that!..    Welsh  now aged 29,is probably  best suited on a chair  in an Adelaide nightclub, reliving his AFL exploits.

Nobody in Victoria, now remembers who he is is or was!!

  5. i don't see the problem, it's not like they have told him to get lost. They offered him a contract and he didn't like it so he left, it sounds like it was his choice.
