  1. Not to my best knowledge. It's thought they came from Southern Europe, across the North of Africa, then up into Spain sometime in the Mesolithic, so they would be some of the original human inhabitants of Europe. They are related to the Brythons, the original inhabitants of the UK before the Anglo Saxons moved in.

Matilda is right, the closest relatives of the basques,genetically,are the Irish &the Welsh--but also the Scots AND the English (recent dna tests have proved what recent archaeologists had suspected for a while--there was no mass saxon invasion or huge slaughter of the aboriginal populace in England ,but mainly a warrior aristocracy imposing its will and culture on locals.)

    The people from the Basque region came over across what was then a land bridge to Europe,some time after the last ice age.
