Question:

Are the Brewers running CC Sabathia into the ground?

The Brewers know they have a very slim chance of resigning Sabathia at the end of the season and know that he was basically rented for a run this season. Since going to the Brewers Sabathia has pitched 6 complete games and is averaging about 115 pitches a game. Is this something Brewers fans need to be worried about? Is there a chance that this much use may run him down before the playoffs even start?

  1. Depends, people view the pitch count a lot differently these days. I mean it's a fact that pitchers can pitch for a long time effectively. The pitch count to me is overrated. The days where Juan Marichal pitches a 16 inning complete game shutout against Warren Sphan who throws a 15 and 1/3 inning game are long gone. If someone do that in the 1960's (where medicine and science could not really do much for the pitchers like it can today) I think they should be able to do it now. And, that's what CC is somewhat doing.

  2. Well, many pundits pointed out his regular season workload(the sole reason he beat out Beckett for the Cy Young)  when trying to quantify his post season struggles last season.  As a Red Sox fan, I certainly hope they run him into the ground.  Would love to see him become the Barry Zito of the East Coast.....as a member of that lovable rag tag group otherwise known as the Yankees!

  3. Yes, but do they have a choice?  They're trying to make the playoffs and their bullpen is worse than the Mets.  Their best chance to win is a complete game from their starter.

  4. He might stay, you never know

But, he will be the big fish this off-season

and dont expect him to go to the AL again

  5. NO I think the Brewers If anything sticking up for the Guy, He Pitched a NO-Hitter MLB Didn't give that.

Brewers will make the Playoffs Trust me.

  6. Sabathia is running everyone ELSE into the ground.  If I were the Brewers, I would be worrying more about how to keep him in their uniform after the season is done.

He'll continue to dominate for however long the Brewers last in the playoffs.

  7. they know they wont get him back so they are squeezing every ounce of energy from him

but yeah he will be too tired to be great in october

    BEST ANSWER ME!!!!

  8. It seems like Ned Yost is doing his best Dusty Baker impression

  9. Man.. I hope so.. that'd be awesome heading into October not having to worry about CC. And with Sheets leaving from the groin injury, it just helps the Cubs chances.

But realistically, CC is a monster. He did the same thing in Cleveland with the Tribe. The guy could probably get away with throwing 130 pitches every game and still be alright.

  10. Well, I'm a Dodger fan and I wouldn't mind NOT seeing CC Sabathia in the playoffs so you make a good point. The managers, at this point of the season, need to think about reserving their players when they reach a comfortable lead towards the end of the season but from what I read online and saw on ESPN and  SportCenter, it seemed CC Sabathia not only have the stamina to pitch complete games but he WANT to throw 115 pithces a game so that leave little option for the manager to put a hook on him. Personally, I would start letting him pitch in the eighties or nineties and experiment with the new bullpen pitchers in the 40-man roster. I wouldn't want to risk injuriing CC Sabathia before the playoffs even begin.

  11. no but the mets are running the brewers into the ground

  12. If you look at Sabathia you can surely tell that he is not your average starting pitcher. The man is physically big and has shown that he is quite capable of throwing a lot of pitches with no apparent harm. Ned Yost and the Brewer's pitching coach aren't going to push CC if they think he is going to run down. He has been getting phenomenal results and should be allowed to finish games as long as he isn't getting overworked. He has been a workhorse in the past and looks like he can handle it again this season.
