Question:

Are the Democrats going to suffer severe backlash from overplaying the Palin's daughter pregnancy story?

The Palin Baby News will not hurt McCain ticket - especially if, as reported this p.m., the McCain campaign had advance knowledge of the pregnancy, and chose Sarah Palin despite this blemish.

Palin's decision to have her Down's Syndrome child combined with the Palin daughter's decision to marry her boyfriend and have this child far outweighs the "moral outrage" on the part of a very few religious zealots.

Plus: a high school senior couple marrying - and even having a child - is not a rarity in much of Alaska - indeed, in much of "fly-over country".

I think Dems will overplay this and suffer backlash.

What do you think?

  1. Hopefully the Obama camp will leave it alone, only thing we will have to worry about now is the media overplay.

  2. I don't hear any Democrats actually talking about it.  We really don't care about Palin's daughter getting pregnant.  But I notice that all the GOP likes to talk about it.  We Dems are too busy trying to get the messages out on issues that actually matter to the American people and that message is about the economy, jobs and healthcare.

  3. I don't think so.  Most Democrats are not making an issue of Palin's daughter's pregnancy.  They won't suffer any more of a backlash than Republicans suffer for their many false accusations of Obama that they have overplayed.

  4. Of course it will.

People are sick and tired of lame attempts of people trying to discredit their candidate's opponent with such nonsense which have absolutely nothing to do with the real issues and problems facing this great nation.

  5. I think you meant to say media.

    Yes, leave her alone.

  6. No, I don't.  Only Conservatives are likely to take umbrage.  Also, you can't assume that most people will ever see all the traffic of a site like this .  Most people don't bother.

  7. Yes, they always do overplay their hand. No one cares thats her daughter is pregnant. Basically they are scared...most of the important polls are showing obamas bounce fading.  And cbs news and usa today are always liberal leaning so don't anyone tell me about the 8 lead he has in them. When a poll asks 60 more democrats then republicans then weights the poll they tend to do well.

  8. Unless Obama tells his followers to knock it off, they will all look bad, and cost them some much needed votes. Its my understanding that Obama's mother was unwed when she had him, so I don't think he's behind it. I think that people on his team are looking to dig up any dirt they can find, and sadly, this is influencing people. People are following these kinds of stories, and not the real issues, that are going to have an effect on the country. It's as though everyone is reading the National Inquirer as opposed to a real newspaper to make their decisions. If Obama steps up and states that he does not support these views, and that children of candidates are to be left out of it (as it always has been done), then he will look like the bigger man. However, if he sits back and says nothing, he is going to be just as bad as those who follow him. I think it really says negative things about the Democrats

  9. That's what Republicans will try to make of it no doubt. Glad to see Obama is smart. He's not part of this frenzy so any attempt to blame him will not fly.

"Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."

Have to stand with Obama on this one

Furthermore this incident does not change the fact McCain choose an unqualified novice for VP on his ticket widely seen as an irresponsible and reckless choice.

This undermines all McCain's "country first" rethoric.

McCain is willing to risk having that unqualified lady become commander in chief in these troubled times just to win a few votes. Can anyone seriously argue she'll be ready on day one if that should be necessary?

Is that country first? Risking the future of America's children to pick up some female voters? What an insult to the intelligence of the good American people

Apparently the new GOP slogan is Party First.

  10. contrary to what you want us to believe democrats are not the only ones who are criticizing.

  11. Kirsten Powers (democratic strategist) believes that to be the case

  12. The Dems , of all people, should keep their mouths shut!

  13. I'm a democrat, and I really think that they should leave the poor girl alone. Politics is about issues relevant to the nation. Not abut the politicians personal lives.

  14. Didn't Obama say this was "out of bounds" to talk about?

I hope my daughters grow up better than hers...

  15. no

  16. It's only here on the internet that it is being overplayed.  No public figure has said anything against any of the Palin family.

  17. God forbid this had been a Democrat! There is nothing wrong with what she is doing...After all, this is what the world has come to..so many children having children. What gets me is the fact that that Republicans want to glorify it because its one of them! Give me a break! I quote..."Shes going to keep it" Of course she is going to keep it...she's five months pregnant! Up on stage hiding her stomach...Stevie Wonder could see that! She can't hide from God...that lets me know that this woman (her mother) is of a shady nature...and i don't think that McCain knew about it. So there!

  18. You forgot to include the phrase, "Unwed and under-age".

  19. especially since Obama's mother had him at 18.  Why is no one bringing that up?

  20. OK here is how I see it.

All Democrats like to remind us that Clinton's personal life should be overlooked. The whole Monica Lewinsky ordeal and his ensuing impeachment because of that. Why do they want to make a huge deal out of Palin's daughter? Her daughter is not only her business (personal business) but not even part of the race or the office (if McCain / Palin are elected).

  21. Obama says babies are punishment.

    Now that's HORRIBLE!

  22. People who vote democratic don't care. If anything, it will score McCain points with the vital conservatives who have threatened not to show up the polls.

  23. Doubtful. All it does is expose Palin's continuing weakness as an unviable VP candidate.

  24.   You are yet to hear from the silent majority of Americans who detest what the democratic party has done to American culture, including politics.

Typically, the silent majority of Americans are right leaning, well entrenched, and inflexible in their attitude towards liberalism.

I believe we will see a blood bath that will set the party of Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and Slick Willie Clinton, back 100 years !

  25. Obama told his supporters to leave Palin's family alone.

His own supporters won't listen to him.

How's he going to lead a country if he can't lead his own supporters?
