  1. well said Detroit Fan. Consistancy is the first word that pops into my mind when u think of the Detroit Red Wings the last 15 or so years. besides the Stanley Cups, How many Presidents Trophies have they won? they are truly the class of the NHL.

  2. Yes and not only the cups. they have been one of the best teams during all those years many times having the best record in hockey Go Wings

  3. in my opinion a dynasty is one who wins say 3 out of the last four cups and then go on and do another run. The Patriots for example have definately formed a dynasty in this decade. So something along those lines. The Red Wings have definately been consistant in getting to the Western Conference finals or the cup however, they aren't consistent in winning it.

  4. They are a dominant team in the NHL... and the most dominant team in recent years but I wouldn't say it was a dynasty until they win championships back to back with the same players.

Their GM is a genius by finding the plugs in the next season to fill the holes any time they falter in the play offs.  Ken Holland can make the Wings a dynasty, if  anyone can.

I just think its premature to say the Wings are a dynasty yet.  They can be beaten.  I see dynasties as teams that are unstoppable.... Their first line is unstoppable and that's it.  No offense, but Osgood can be stopped.  3 lines can be stopped.

  5. Dynsasty is a pretty strong word.  Have they been one of the better (if not the best...hey they were the best during 4 seasons...not counting the President's Cup) teams in the past 11 or so years?  Absolutely.

I would say they have carved out their own little niche at the top of the NHL.  Once they make a huge stone wall around that niche that no team can penetrate, then we'll discuss the word "dynasty."

  6. The Red Wings are consistent, without doubt. However, dynasty would be stretching things. The reason why? The space in between the Stanley Cup triumphs are the only obstacle that stands in Detroit's way, the difference between the NHL's model franchise and dynastic example.

  7. The have been consistently good and certainly the best over the last 10-15 years but Dynasty is a strong word.

Habs in the 50's   with 5 in 5

Habs in the 60's with 4 in 5

Habs in the 70's with 4 in 4

Islanders in the 80's with 4 in 4

Oilers in the 80's with 4 in 5

Those were dynasties, what Detroit has done while impressive is not of that stature.

Will there be another 4 in 4, probably not.  This gives the argument that what Detroit has done is amazing but lets leave the Dynasties to the true dynasties.

  8. I have always defined a dynasty as winning 3 in a row, or 3 of 4.  The Wings, though always in centention and consistent beyond belief, have not lived up to the level of dynasty in my opinion (and I am a huge Wings fan).  They will be remembered as a great team for the 90's and 00's, but I don't think they fit the definition.

  9. that's a bit of a stretch.

Their probably the most consistant and best team of the last 11 years

  10. dynasty - a series of members of a family who are distinguished for their success, wealth, etc

I guess you could call them a dynasty if they won all four in a row but there were 7 other teams between 1997 and now that have won. A dynasty is a series. And that is in consecutive time, not a series in hockey.
