Question:

Are the Girls Gone WIld women pro-feminist?

I was channel surfing Comedy Central this weekend and Saw one of those ridiculous Girls Gone Wild commercials. The women are stupid to be sure but they are also demonstrating their free-will and participating in activities that at one time would have been unlawful. They willfully shed their clothes and express themselves in whatever way they choose generally in a pornographic way.

Wouldn't this demonstration of freedom be pro feminist?

  1. In that sense, yes, but that's still digging a little too deep for comparisons. I find GGW exploitive and completely devoid of appeal for those of us with any shred of intelligence. Feminists have always opposed treating women as merely bodies; now some women are making it look like it was all their idea.

  2. I don't know any feminists who said that you can't be s**y.

All I know is that if those girls on GGW are doing as they please, then go ahead.  It would probably support the philosophy of s*x positive feminists, b/c they think women should take control of their sexuality even if it means exposing yourself.

I'm a fan of visual erotica though, and I think GGW is dumb and boring. Sorry.

  3. Nothing which panders to the delusion that by exploiting, abjectifying our sexuality is somehow liberating can be described as pro-feminist.  Men and women are not allowed to play by the same sexual rules in society!

What do call a guy who is open about his sexuality, or how many women he has had...and then, apply the same standard to a woman?

  4. This is the claim to the new feminist revolution.

  5. NO!  They're still under subjugation -- for a "male gaze".  Any "freedom" is delusional.

Now, if the person behind the camera was a woman, and GirlsGoneWild LLC was female owned, then that's another story.

  6. Yes they are pro-feminist and just living what the third wave of feminism has taught them.

Third wave of feminism taught women- no one can judge you, so go ahead and be little whores, as long as you give feminism credit.

  7. I see what you mean about the fact that this women are acting out of gender specifics per-say... However; I think much of their behavior has to do with alcohol and low self esteem.  Most of the girls on those videos have only vague memories of what they did because they drank too much and there is usually a man in the area egging the girls on to go further.  I would not call this demonstration pro-feminist as it is not being done to better the women themselves or the way the world views them or will treat them.

  8. I think you would have to ask each of them whether or not she supports feminism. I don't think anything you've described suggests that they do.

Regarding your added point, I don't think  any feminist, whether they approve of what these women are doing or not, would say that they have to stop doing it in order to have rights of whatever kind. I certainly wouldn't say so if they are acting within the law.

  9. Honestly, I don't think these young women even know what feminism is or what it stands for.  I also don't think they care.  It's about the 30 seconds of "fame" (attention) they get for baring their b*****s.

  10. Feminism made it possible!

  11. THey are silly college girls having a good time drinking and getting laid and see no harm in it. The  male multi-millionaire that owns the copy-rights of girls gone wild is in some trouble because he didn't get releases from the countless girls that ended up on the videos and is getting sued I believe. Lust for money and male lust supercedes the feminist movement. In fact if you ask young college girls the history behind the feminists movement and the 3000 women that died in England for the right to vote (their heads were bashed in by local police) they are clueless. It's sad but what started out as a political movement in the Victorian times, for the right of women (mostly deeply religious upper middle class ladies) to be able to vote for the chance to try to control child prostitution laws(it was legal for a child older than 12 to work in the vice dens, in the late 1800's early 1900's) have been reduced to the right to show some titty.

  12. Yeah, I like GGW.
