Are the Pirates purposefully the league's Minor league team?

Does the ownership purposefully train players for the rosters of other teams? I don't see how you can trade Nady and get a prospect that's not even one of the Yanks top 5 minor league players. . . They're now going to trade Bay for nothing. Do you think the Pirate ownership has a deal with the real major league teams to train their players for them in a semi-professional post-minor league system... i.e. the Pirate's club.

  1. The Pirates ownership is awful. I live near Pittsburgh and watching the Pirates fail over and over again is sad. They keep saying they're trying to stock up on their prospects and farm system, but they've been doing that for years. They've got some young guys on their team, though. In a few years, they could have something. The problem is that once they have a good thing or two, they trade them away for some more prospects.

Say what you want about teams like the Yankees, but at least their owners want to win.

  2. well i still see them trading bay to the rays for tiop prospects. i doubt the manny trade will happen. but once they get those three preospects they could be good...in about 10 years

  3. I can see your frustration. I'm a Yankee fan with an extreme soft spot of the Pirates (Roberto Clemente is my favorite of all-time) and I was shocked by the Nady deal (though I think it was the Mets who should have never dealt him in the first place).

I know this is a game of numbers (stats and money) but the front office over there has to do something to turn it around instead of digging the team in deeper. And I'd never give Bay away on a whim, even if I tend to overrate him a bit.

  4. Yes as soon as you can accept that then you can enjoy baseball in the Burgh.

  5. The Pirates are the MLB's equivalent of the NBA's D-league. It's sad to see that they went from a good team (like 1979) to the way they are now.

  6. Actually Jose Tabata was the Yankees 3rd best prospect
