Are the TGV station and the railroad station located in the same place?

We're going to France this summer and my dad wanted to know :)

  1. It depends where. Some stations have TGV and non-TGV trains (most of Paris's stations) while others like Avignon or Aix-en-Provence in the south of France have two different stations: the old downtown stations for non-TGV trains and modern TGV stations outside the city.

    When they are not in the same place, there is often a shuttle bus between the two or between the TGV station and the town center.

    Where are you going?

    EDIT: When I asked where you are going, I meant what is the final destination city, town or village you are going to? Since there is no general rule, it depends on each specific place whether you'll be arriving at a TGV only station or a regular train station.


  2. In the cities, the answer is yes. In the countryside there's some stations reserved for the TGV as the high speed train has special tracks.
