Is timex ironman series really water resistant if someone swims for a couple of hours daily wearing it? Will the life of the watch be reduced or something? I read that watches rated 100m & above should be good for swimming, but i want specific info on the ironman series, because if triathletes use it then it must be good enough to take a beating i presume. also is there a difference between the all digital & ana-digi ironman series? what useful features should i look for when i buy one?

  1. I've seen many swimmers using that watch.  I used another brand when I swam and, in no situation would I suggest that the watch's life was shortened by being used in swim practice.  The only thing I noticed was that the band, on all watches, wore out quickly.

Whenever I used a digital watch, the main feature I looked for was the largest numerals so that when I used it for repeats, I'd be able to see my finish and start times more easily.  Also, the start/stop/reset buttons were important to me.  I once had a watch that had a count-down mode and would 'beep' when it reached zero.  I'd sometimes use that feature while doing repeat swims and I wasn't real concerned with my time, just more concerned in the start.

You need to determine between an all digital and an analog/digital.  Personally, I like an analog clock face for telling regular time.

  2. I use an Ironman as a back up timer for scuba diving. It's been to 253 feet with me and is still going fine.
