Question:

Are the Yankees pooling TOO much faith into Joba Chamberlain? Why not the entire NYY farm system?

First off, I'm not a Yankees hater, or really a fan either, but I find it a little bothersome that a $200 million squad is resting their entire faith into a 23 year old's arm.

Normally this kind of attention would call him the poster boy, but he's clearly more than that, he's the entire season for the next eight years.

So why don't they do this rigourous building in their ENTIRE FARM SYSTEM? I mean talk about putting all your eggs in one basket. What about Karstens, Clibbard, Kennedy, Halsey, Igawa, Dotel, Ponson, etc?

Look at the New York Yankees '08 players to be: Chamberlain

Look at the Detroit Tigers '06 players to be: Granderson, Thames, Verlander, Monroe, Inge, Zumaya, Robertson, Bonderman

Is building one single individual player at a time the way it works and I just didn't notice?

  1. Joba is the best pitcher they have in the farm. The others are not ready and when Joba is healthy he's a great pitcher. He can be the number 1 on a number of teams. The yankees have other players in the farm that are going to be great players but right now there is no space for them. They can't bring up players when their trying to make the post season. The Yankees farm system has gotten a lot better and will keep on getting better with good scouting and good draft picks. This year has been tough on them because of all the injuries. Ian Kennedy isn't ready yet and Phil Hughes is injured but is close to coming back up. Last year before he got injured he was pitching great. He was pitching a no-hitter against the Rangers when he pulled his hamstring. The have great players but they can't bring up players as easily as other teams because they have those positions filled up. Kei Igawa is a bust who can't throw the ball low and either walks a bunch of hitters or gives up a bunch of hits.

  2. He is the Future of the Yankees Staff and he is a rookie the Yankees need to take care of him .

Again he is the Part and the future of the Yankee organization, and the Yankees  are trying to go with a news system trying and get and use the Farm system

    Karsten- Traded to the pirates

    Clibbard- i think mean clipper

    traded also to the Nationals

, Kennedy,- still working with him

    Halsey,- TRADED long a ago

Igawa, - a BUST SIMPLE AS THAT

Dotel- IF YOU MEAN OCTAVIO DOTEL HE IS WITH THE WHITE SOX

, Ponson,- he is with the Yankees and never was from the Farnsystem

  3. Actually, the New York Yankees '08 players to be included Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, and Ian Kennedy.

Kennedy had an awful April. Hughes struggled as well. Then they both went on the disabled list for months with injury.

That was a huge shock to the system. Phil Hughes carried the world on his shoulders-- more so than Joba. Hughes was called Franchise Phil and was expected to dominate the majors. Yes, at 22 years old. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.

Joba is treated like the future because he is the future. He's young and he's got an arm. He's all the makings of a franchise player.

The biggest criticism the Yankees faced at the beginning of the season was that they were putting too much faith in THREE guys. After injury and rough starts, it dwindled to one.

The Yankees actually have a much stronger farm than they did years ago. There are kids developing down there. The Yankees do have more than Joba Chamberlain.

But those guys certainly aren't the players you mentioned, as others have said.

  4. first of all karstens is gone hes in pittsburgh oh yeah and he almost threw a perfect game with pittsburgh.. bet ther wishing they dealt rasner instead lol ok anyway onto your question clippards gone too kennedys not ready and igawas not ready so this is all we got for awhile im not giving up on hughes yet i still think he can do something but for right now yes a $200M team's fate rests in a kid's hands

  5. they usually get one or two good prospects every couple of seasons but other than that what they have are inconsistent players in their farm system

  6. Well yes Joba is highly regarded. They have tons of other prospects to (Austin Jackson, Mark Melancon, Andrew brackman, Alan Horne) however.

Karstens- Traded to Pittsburgh in the Nady trade

Clippard- Traded in december to washington

Halsey- Traded wayyyy back in 05 for randy johnson

Dotel- Was with the team in 04 i think.
