Question:

Are the Yankees still the Evil Empire?

What I mean is, the Yankees have drastically changed their way of getting players, searching within the Farm System and keeping top prospects. Gone are the days of spending tons of money for one player for a few months of work. With the acuisition of Pudge, Nady, Marte, they traded & bought pretty cheap, addressing needs, and keeping their "best" prospects (Although I thought Karstens & Tabata should have stayed, but...)

  1. Of course they are the "evil empire" and always will be.

That's the price you pay for being that good.

  2. Still, is it wrong to spend the money if you got it?  If the team wants to spend that much, that is their choice.  They fill in the seats, by putting in a quality (if not championship) team on the field.

If Kansas City wants to have better players, then support your team, go to the games.

Boston sells out all the time. NY does too.  Even when they are losing.

I lived in Anaheim and I would go the games all the time, because I like baseball, not the Angels.  When they really bad, the stadium was empty.  That year they won the WS, all of a sudden everyone is an Angels fan.  Where the heck were you people before!!  Now they can go out and pick up players like Texiara.

I think it is just an Old Red Sox term. But I think we can all agree that it is really annoying hearing Ben Affleck say it.  What the h**l do you know about baseball Affleck!!!  Sorry, folks, that's a  whole different issue.

  3. yes they are

  4. The title "Evil Empire" was given to the Yankees by the Red Sox's president when the Yankees outbid them for a Latino pitcher awhile back & if that pitcher would have went to the Sox instead, would the term "Evil Empire" exist.

  5. They want to win.

  6. No, that's just an old term used by disgruntled red sox fans back when they were losing all the time. The red sox, angels, and others are just as bad if not worse than the yankees when it comes to buying a winning team.

  7. Yep.

    Them then the Angels.

  8. i just say the Yankees are doing a good thing keeping the good prospects and still winning and that's a good combo

  9. I say the Red Sox only because yes the yanks have won 26 World Series, but in this day in age the Red Sox have become THE team in baseball winning 2 world series in 3yrs. So i say the Red Sox.

  10. Of course they are the Evil Empire still.  They always have been and always will be.  This is a deep, long, rivalry and as far as a person of Red Sox Nation, they will always be the Evil Empire.

  11. Nah its just a nick-name because there the best franchise ever! Hank is different then his daddy because he likes to hold on to prospects ,but need to win because of there payroll status so its sort of win now with the NYY and win every year and like that about them!

  12. The Yankees are considered "evil" for spending more money than any other team can afford to spend. The Red Sox are spending some cash, but they are also making smart decisions (something that the Yankees are rarely guilty of). It's not "evil" to be smart or to win. The Red Sox were 4th in team payroll this year, more than $75M behind the Yankees.

  13. yes and they always will be, and btw the fans arent smart there cocky people who assume things and think that the yankees are awesome over the past 8 years.. well um 0 rings doesnt catch my eye..
