  1. Not at all. Even those ads that claim "free iPod, free PS3, or some other expensive electronic item" are false advertisements. You have to complete "trial" offers that end up costing you money in one way or another. Most pop up ads that say free stuff, will lead you to a site that probably has a virus.

  2. i wouldnt know about that because i never click them. but they're so annoying! especially ones that pop up.

  3. Some ad companies don't have high standards of their advertisers...These are the ones that use annoying tactics like popups, promises of free stuff, and big flashing colors to distract you from the real content.

Other online advertising companies like Yahoo and Google use strict standards and try to offer ads about the specific topic of the web page.  They use regular text or normal pictures that aren't too distracting from the main topic of the page.  (As you can see, there are some "sponsor results" on every Answers page - these and ads that look like this are part of the Yahoo and Google networks)

Not all ads are bad, and many websites have no way to pay their costs other than when people click on the ads.  Some ads are for real legitimate free services - off the top of my head I think of Fastweb, a free website that helps you find scholarships to pay for school.  Not everything that is free is too good to be true, but it is good to be wary and read the fine print before you EVER sign up for anything or give away any kind of personal information.

There is no single rule that is true for every case.

Who's the joker with the downvote?  The website you're enjoying right now is funded by advertisements.

  4. No, 99.99% of ads on the Internet are fake. They claim to give you a free ipod, mac, laptop, cell etc. but they don't they take your information and steal money from your credit card or bank account. You should never click on any ad. They can also give you a virus, you should also keep your anti-virus software up to date for it to provide the best protection it can give. I suggest that you download an ad blocker or something that will block ads on any website. They can also get very annoying because they keep popping up and saying you have won and all, but they are all lies, a lot of those people that create that ad are bad people that want to get a key-logger or something like that in your computer so it can steal your cc information, and a lot of other information from your computer. I hope that you find this answer helpful!
