I have a uni assignment for my academic literacies class, asking me to write about whether or not the attributes of creativity, flexiblity and communication are important in my chosen field - psychology. Just looking for an outside opinion, and new thoughts on the question.

  1. Absolutely!  I cannot imagine being treated by a rigid, clamped-down, repressive and grunting shrink!

When I was a kid, and my older sister had run away for the second time,  we had to go to a few sessions of family therapy...and this Joan Crawford look-alike, with painted-on lips, a stern fixated glare and tightly-gripped hands hovered over us little kids and very severely asked us questions...and no matter what WE said, all SHE said, was, "Uh-huh, uh-huh..."

I hated her about two seconds after I first laid eyes on her--and her cold demeanor was the reason...go forth and heal, young lady, and be creative, flexible, communicative and KIND.  Above all, be kind.

  2. Absolutely.  Working with patients, clients, students a psychologist has to come up with different ways to relate, to convey thoughts, and work with people.  When something doesn't work, something else has to be tried.  People vary in intelligence, experience and age (working with children vs. older adults) and all require different techniques.  I don't know of one psychologist who hasn't modified techniques working with clients.  Interesting assignment....(psychologist/college prof)
