Are the bordelais nice to americans?

i'm thinking about taking a job in the wine industry in france, i will most likely be living somewhere in bordeaux. i'm from a rural area in the u.s., so i like smaller, quieter places. and i do speak french.

They're amazingly nice to Americans.  Americans are quite popular in France which might surprise you.  I worked for a couple months picking grapes in the littoral region and had a fantastic time!  It's good you speak French as most people outside Paris don't speak much english so you 'll do really well I'm sure.

  3. I'm sure you'll have a great time. The notion that the French are uniformly anti-American simply isn't true.

    Especially if your expertise is in the field of wine you'll surely have no trouble establishing connections with people.

    Do be aware however, that the French are a somewhat more formal and reserved people than Americans. They don't immediately launch into discussions of their personal lives with people they have just met. They don't immediately relate on a first name basis.  If you are not prepared for this it may seem that people are being rude or standoffish but you will find that while the French do not become friends fast they become fast friends.
