  1. I don't believe so, the judical which was to be the weakest is probably now the strongest

  2. No.

    Bushco has taken over.

  3. Not when you have the communists in power of our Congress (Pelosi/Reid) as they turn out the lights, turn off the mics, refuse to let C Span report on the actual happenings in OUR CONGRESS!!!!!

  4. That's the way it's supposed to work... Checks and balances. But in reality, the Supreme Court is what really runs the country. They get final say in everything and they can basically stick it to everyone else -- the President, Congress, lower courts, etc..   Not the reason that we put them there, but lately that's what they've been using their power for. Which is why I really don't believe in lifetime appointments for any of those bozos...

  5. Speaking of government in The United States?

The systems of checks and balances is unique. It grew out of The Founding Fathers not wanting to live under a monarchy or a dictatorship, so they created a 'living' Constitution which provides for a legislature to draft proposed laws, an executive branch to approve or deny those proposals and to enforce them (and still provided for a super-majority to overrule a veto) and a judicial branch to interpret the law/s.

Over the 200+ years of American federal republic democracy, the balance of power has shifted, depending on whether the President, the Congress or the Supreme Court was most powerful. T o provide remedy for a 'permanent' power shift. Representatives are elected every 2 years and Senators every 6 years. To keep them 'above politics,' the Justices receive lifetime appointments.

It may not be the best system in the world, but regularly-scheduled elections; a viable chain of accession to the Presidency in case of death, incapacity or emergency; and a system in place for recalls have enabled the government to exist uninterrupted and in a fairly rational manner.

And it beats whatever's in second place (IMHO).
