Are the bugs in my cat's food really ants?

I keep getting these little bugs in my cat's food bowl. They are extremely tiny (they don't even look like ants until you really watch them), and there are always huge amounts of them in and around the food. They are kinda brownish-red in color. I live in CT if that helps too.
