  1. yes, because women like to gossip about others.

  2. I certainly hope not, but there are probably some out there like that.

They are not good role models and if they were real people one would hate to see their lives 20 years from now if they continued down the same paths.

    Maggie

  3. Nope. As much as I loved the show, I say no. I certainly don't talk like that. However the one where Carrie is talking about Aiden and her overall fear of marriage is spot-on.

I watched one of those behind the scenes about the show and what they did was they would have meetings with the writers, and the writers would write about their experiences and incorporate them into each character.

Believe me, if anyone slept around like they did they would be totally most of wouldn't be walking, or disease free.

  4. Well, obviously since it's fiction based it kind of goes without saying that the women on s*x and the City aren't an accurate portrayal of real women.

I agree with Lucy. Each character has realistic traits that a lot of women can and do relate to. I mean if they didn't the show would not be as popular as it was.

  5. To say they don't portray some element of real women is to have one's head in the clouds.  For instance, the lead woman (Carrie?) finds out how much money she wastes on shoes when she realizes she could have been saving for a condo.  Surely, women (and men) have vices where they waste money on really stupid things when there is a real goal.  The show picks something silly (like shoes) to show extreme consumerism.

Maybe to put it in terms of the younger generation....how money do they spend on iTunes, cel phone plans, the latest fashion trend only to graduate college with plenty of school debt?

And in terms of relationships....a woman gets dumped via a post-it-note?  How is that different than someone doing it via a text message?

The writers on shows like this are real humans.  Some of their concepts are based on real events they or others have experienced.  Then they add more flair to enhance the entertainment factor and generate more revenue.

As for Mrs., there are plenty of real people who have no real depth.  I've met some of them and even dated one once.

  6. As much as "married with children" is an accurate portrayal of married life, seriously Rio! I expect more from you.

  7. Yes.

I have a circle of friends who are a Samantha, a Miranda, a Carrie, a Charlotte/Carrie, and a  Miranda/Samantha (me, without the promiscuity).

  8. I actually see me and my friends in those characters.

I see Samantha more like me - haha but I'm def not as promiscuous as she. My bestie is more like Carrie. haha

I think they are more stereotypes, so it's easier to see yourself in the different characters, because stereotypes are based on generalization. So yes.. but I doubt Samantha and Charlotte would be friends.. but I dunno..

  9. Of course! I frequently sit in Manhattan hotspots all day long, wearing Dolce & Gabbana dresses and Jimmy Choos, downing green apple martinis and seducing men.

In between working 40 hours a week and taking care of a baby, of course.

  10. no. coz those women forget this one thing: nothing lasts forever.

they need more wisdom to think globally instead of locally, search for an exit, estimating possible threats and ways of escape when entering a room instead of getting deceived by paying attention to the guests’ faces to find out who they are and how they feel...

also they need to be more open-minded and look forward in life for the most appropriate answers.

s*x&The City is a symbol of women who are abused at their own hands, and double pleasures for the men.

  11. No.  They are SCRIPTED characters on a TV show.  I don't care how well they are written, characters will never be an ACCURATE portrayal of real life.

  12. I think there is a little bit of each of those characters in each of us.

I know I have some Samantha's s*x goddess in me.

    Some Miranda's drive.

    Charlotte's love of family.

and Carries quest for "the one"

We all have one or more of those traits in us.

And if we're single till we're 40, that just means we are not settling for anything less.

  13. Are you serious Rio?  Come on I thought you were our young one "wise beyond her years".  These roles are a very shallow look at stereotypes of women.  Real women, real people, have far more depth.

  14. They're invented by promiscuous g*y men as has been popularly said in the past. The writers/creators of the show were g*y men and the characters based on their lifestyle, at least Samantha's was. They made the "real" girl characters uptight and unexciting in comparison. I couldn't stand that show. Charlotte comes across as psychotic, Miranda boring "but the responsible mom"...Samantha's sleeping with anything that walks and looks her way, and is having a blast! Only a clinically psychopathic female who doesn't form attachments could be that way. Carrie is the well meaning yet stern parent whose always having bad thigs happen to her.

  15. An accurate portrayal of the cliche that is single women in their 30s, yes. They act like teenagers and they are a joke.

  16. i think the characters are a portrayal of women's fantasy's.  Look at samantha.... what she does looks so much fun, but you would never do it in real life.
