Are the differnet editions of Settlers compatible? (2nd -4th)??

I have the Settlers of Catan board game with the 5-6 player expansion. It is not a newer edition ,I want to get the Seafarers of Catan, but all I can find is a 4th edition, are these compatible, or will the graphics on the tiles, cards.. be different?

The graphics on the tiles are different with the newest edition of Settlers (and its expansions, seafarers, cities and knights) but should be completely compatible with the stuff you already have.

The art got a facelift, patterned, oddly enough, after the Xbox Live Arcade version, but the tiles are the same size and blank on the back.

So to answer your question, yes they are compatible, and yes the graphics on the tiles and cards are different.
