200 farmers gathered outside Westminster to protest against the governments decision not to cull the badgers . They are authorising a vaccination research programme instead . I say at last the government has got something right . Do you agree ?

  1. Farmers have to have their cattle put down through TB. Badgers are carriers and if there are badgers on his land he will have to bring cattle back to the same environment. The badgers are safe but s*d the cattle you are saying ? Vaccination is all well and good in principle but come on ! Let's catch every badger and give it a jag ! I don't think so. City folks have not got a clue I'm afraid.

  2. The farmers are wrong i do not agreee with the cull.

  3. Ariana, i don't really know what to say. I'm one of those really sad people who has watched Badgers all their lives. My father bought me a pair of night vision goggles (ex forces) years ago and we used to go to our local wood and watch the cubs playing. When my own children were old enough i also took them and it's just magical, not just Badgers but Foxes, Weasels, Stoats, Rabbitts, Mice and Owls all being very aware of who is going to be dinner if they're not careful. Unfortunately, the farmers are right, TB cannot be cured by vaccination it can be prevented but they really do need to kill off some of the Badgers to stop the spread. It's heartbreaking but at the end of the day the Badger population will be better for it.

No, Ariana, our farmers understand how the countryside equates, the whole food and benefits chain, the life cycle, they won't kill them all, only those with TB. What a damned pity our stupid government weren't insisting on health checks on our borders as TB is once again a problem in our country from immigrants!

  4. Yes. I totally agree with it, it seems to me as though they don't know what the cause of the disease is so they needed to blame something. In this case it was the poor old badgers.

  5. i agree........while their doing that can  we sort out the grey squirels to please

  6. Badgers aren't a nuisance, man is the nuisance!!

  7. Yes I do agree.  Farmers just want everything their own way no matter how stupid or selfish their ideas are, which is what used to happen under the Tories.  Now, they just whitter on about how "townies" don't understand them.  We understand you all too well, you sods.

  8. I agree with anything you say lovely Ariana.....And the farmers....xx

Whoops sorry i misread that part...i disagree also with the cull......x

  9. No, I do not agree.

I am not a farmer, but I am acquainted with one or two. They tell me that badgers are presently a great nuisance, and worse, they continue to spread disease. The government now sees fit to suggest a vaccination research programme - after more than ten years in office !!

How about the government offering compensation to the farmers for the cattle which have to be destroyed because of the diseases they have caught from these badgers ?

And just how long is it estimated that this research programme will take before it comes up with an effective vaccine ?

The government got it wrong with the fox, and now they are doing it again with the badger.

  10. I disagree with the farmers. And it's not spelled C U L L, it's K I L L

  11. I'm against the cull, for a start I don't think it would be practical, secondly I thought it had been tried in an area of Wales and was unsuccessful, though I can't confirm that, and finally it's a bovine disease, it came from cows, and infected badgers. What will prevent that happening again, or do we exterminate them forever. Also, last weeks Countryfile convinced me further it'd be a waste of time and resources.
