  1. Once I had a gnarly wipeout and I was just ridin a regular shortboard with just some glassed in fins and I got a huge gash on my leg had to get a couple stiches but like somone else said their was a huge amount of pressure when it cut me

  2. the ones i have used werent they werent like totaly soft. but they werent sharp were the would hurt u unless u had a huge i mean huge amount of pressure pushed against it

  3. While none were ever what you'd call having a knife edge, It depends on when the board was made, and what fins were used. Newer surfboards have short, well rounded fins, while the old single finned surfboards did have fins that were longer and sharper.  Those were capable of giving a very nasty gash if you were to be runned over by one ( I still have a scar on my arm from a surfboard accident from the late 70's )

  4. no but if you get hit by one they hurt

  5. They aren't necessarily sharp if you just run your finger accross them but they definitely have an edge and if you happen to catch them the right way (or wrong way I guess), you can definitely cut yourself.  I have cut my foot before in big surf that tossed me around a bit.  I use FCS M-5 fins on a 6'-8" shortboard.  These fins are made of fiberglass.
