  1. A function is even if

    f(x) = f(-x)

    and odd if

    f(x) = -f(-x)

    1. f(x) = sqrt(x)

    f(-x) = sqrt(-x) = i f(x)

The function is neither odd or even.

    2. f(x) = cube_root(x)

    f(-x) = cube_root(-x) = - cube_root(x) = -f(x)

    The function is odd.

    3. f(x) = 1/x

    f(-x) = 1/(-x) = - (1/x) = -f(x)

    The function is odd.

    4. f(x) = 1/x^2

    f(-x) = 1/(-x)^2 = 1/x^2 = f(x)

    The function is even.
