  1. its insanely cheap in comparison, plus the food is better so i would be willing to pay more.  i use to spend $120 a wk at a reg. place, now i spend $80.  its cheaper because everything they sell is from their company, so its like buying generic.  they never even have "sales" b/c everything is always a low price, which is nice to not have to look each week at a circular.

edit: scene, i live 15 minutes outside of queens new york on l.i.  i don't eat meat so my grocery bill is a lot less than most. :)  i buy all my food there, not just "specialty" items.  you can get greek yogurt and scones in a regular store anyway.

  2. Trader Joes is super cheap.

    great deals.

They buy well and sell well.

Fast turnover but they buy alot of "buyouts" which means you may not see the same product there the next time you go( deoends on the item).

the last thing a store owner wants to see is a Trader Joes opening near them.

( I once worked for Whole Foods and Trader Joes is a David who can kill Goliath).

Whole foods ( as big as they are)is deathly afraid of a Trader Joes opening near them ( and they have a habit of following Whole Foods around).

    Smart Company.

  3. I don't know where mortimer lives, but here in Phoenix, Trader Joe's is a bit more expensive than a regular grocery store for most of their items, because they are a sort of specialty shop. You always pay a bit more for specialty items, then again, when I go Trader Joe's I go there for something specific that I can't get at my regular grocery stores; such as scones, or greek yogurt, dried hibiscus, etc. For being a specialty store as they are, I think there prices are very reasonable. I've seen health food stores with outrageous prices. Give them a try, what have you got to lose?

  4. trader joe's a grocery store?

  5. Cheap- when you compare item for item. A 16-oz bottle of premium olive oil, for example, is twice as much at the regular grocery store. And their cereals are half as expensive too. And they blow Whole Foods out of the water- in terms of pricing.

That said, they do sell a lot of organic foods, specialty foods, imported and gourmet foods that are more expensive than your basic white bread and tomatoes. So because of that it can get pricey- but if you're going to eat organic anyway you might as well pay a little less for it at Trader Joe's!

    Two final words: Two-Buck Chuck!

  6.    all the chain stores and expensive with the cost of fuel and product they pass it on to us. they have large over heads so charge more.

best if you want lower prices try wal mart super centers as they work on large volume and less markup, also the member stores like sam's/costco/b.j's, but you have to buy in bigger bulk there.

If they have stores like save a lot or aldi than they will be less also, but carry mostly private label brands but are very good and little meat.

If you don't want to shop those places the next best is to cherry pick at the supermarkets and that is buy the specials every week, but have to be careful doing that because you will pick up this and that there, so if just buying specials than that is fine
