  1. no. global warming is happening because gas prices are goin up. U got it mixed up

  2. Government regulations, taxation, and controls are the cause of high gas prices.  Oil companies are supposedly making a fortune, right?

People with money like to invest in sure things.  If oil is such a lucrative market, why aren't the rich pumping every barrel they can out of the ground?  The government won't let them.

Why don't they open up new refineries to charge the oil companies for processing their oil into gasoline?  The government won't let them.

Why are prices going up?  The government is artificially creating a domestic shortage as compared to where our free market equilibrium price would be.  I won't speculate as to the motives behind such a move....but it ain't to combat global warming.

  3. Oil prices are going up for a few reasons. For one we are running out of oil in the places we are drilling and it would cost to much to drill in new places because there is so much red tape and environmental issues. I think oil prices our going up because oil companies know the end is near. They are using the extra profits to invest in alternative fuels and as a reserve since they will no doubt lose large profits for awhile when we start major conversion to a new main fuel source. Think about it. How many commercials have you seen lately talking about how much these big oil companies are investing in alternative fuels? If the price goes up high enough we will have to convert to a new fuel even faster. In the end believe or not this will end up better for us. We will have cheaper fuel and a better environment

  4. Gas prices are increasing because of high demand, especially demand from rapidly industrializing countries such as China and India. The days of cheap oil are over.

The price of gas will continue to increase. New supplies will be found, but new oil field are usually in places that are difficult and expensive to develop, and the quality may not be as good. We need to reduce demand of oil by investing in and developing alternative energy sources.

  5. not at all. there is no relation between global warming and gar prices

  6. I would say that the same people that champion global warming are most responsible for high oil prices.  They are the ones that have prevented viable alternatives and forced us to be dependent on foreign oil.  Their grade school economics (sorry to insult grade schoolers) has consistently led to opposite effects of their stated intentions.

  7. The sun is to blame for our high gas prices???  Wow!  That is a new spin i haven't heard.

  8. Well, no not exactly, you see, alot of people are finding less oil, oil=gas and if there is so oil, there is no gas, but people can't find oil! So The prices are going up beacuse its becoming more rare! But good idea though

  9. little girl prices in a capitalist country are set by supply and demand

  10. No, they're going up because of loose credit.

How many credit-driven asset bubbles do we need to experience (NASDAQ, natural gas, housing, metals, and now oil) before people stop blaming producers, speculators, and other market participants who are just following what the price mechanism tells them instead of the one body that can and does disrupt what the price mechanism tells them, along with providing the credit that fuels the bubbles?

  11. omg im sorry, but i get tired of having everything blamed on global warming.  sometimes there is a snowstorm that is not caused by global warming, and there are heat spells that are just the cause of nature.  i mean, if you look into the facts, only about 3.5% of the earths heating is due to humans.  of this, only 0.4% is from cars.  not everything is to blame on global warming.  i think that this whole global warming business is causing more spike in prices everywhere just over some misinterperted facts.

  12. no they are going up because of corporate greed.  they are rising because they have 100% profits while the rest of the country's small business can only have a 10% profit.  they are charging that much because they can and our government allows it by enforcing virtually no taxes.

  13. no.  but it's a nice benefit to the high gas prices.  unfortunately it really isn't affecting how much people drive, just how much more they complain.

  14. No. High gasoline prices are from a combination of factors. None of the reasons include global warming. Oil production seems to have stopped increasing. China and India have become major bidders for world oil. That means more bidders on the same amount of oil.  Oil is linked to the dollar, so when we print up money like it is just paper, all prices go up, especially oil. Lastly, Oil reserves in Middle East are believed to be over-estimated.

I agree with Jim Z except on one minor point: substitute "people that champion global warming" with Big Oil CEO's. THEY are the people that have prevented alternative fuel technology (by buying off patents) and gouging prices. Heck, in countries like Saudi Arabia and Venezeula people are paying the equivalent of a quarter for a gallon a gas. Obviously SOMEONE'S gouging.
