Are the great plains and mackenzie valley wolf the same species?

  1. They are the same species (species being "lupus"), however the Great Plain's wolf subspecies is "nubilus," and the Mackenzie valley wolf's is "occidentalis."

  4. Yes.  By the biologist's definition that they can and do produce offspring also capable of reproducing.  Even now there is occasional interbreeding between these 2 subspecies of the species wolf (Canis lupus).
