  1. French quarter is high ground so it is happening! Other places are gone.


  2. I was in the French Quarter back in April....seemed to be alive and well. But on the outskirts of N.O. you could still LOTS of damaged homes and businesses

I have not been down to visit family since Katrina so most of thus information is second hand.  The French Quarter sits on relatively high ground compared to other parts of New Orleans.  Most of the flood damage was to the lower lying areas (and less historical areas) of the city.  While the city has not fully recovered in terms of population or jobs, the tourist sights are, for the most part, in decent shape.
