Are the hotels and restaurants back to same status?

I am thinking of planing a family vacation in early January to Cancun, but a friend of mine went like 2 years ago and the place is not worth visiting now. I have never been but my wife loves the place and raves about going there again. So if Cancun is back to the way it was before that big storm wiped out alot of stuff I would love to go visit.

Thanks in advance

  1. Pay no attention to what your friend has to say. Yes, Hurricane Wilma messed Cancún up in 2005, but they have spent billions of dollars rebuilding the beaches and replacing the sand. All the hotels are back and there are even new ones built where the ones that were destroyed once stood. It's back and better than ever! You would never be able to tell that a hurricane destroyed it three years ago, they have done a great, great job rebuilding Cancún! Everything is fine and your wife is right...It is very awesome in Cancún and I strongly suggest you and your wife come back to visit.

  2. I wonder when your wife was there? it is definitely for the 20something crowd party all night not a place i would take kids, I think i would go further south into Playa or the riviera maya just a suggestion. My husband and I went three years ago and everyone called us mom and dad I am now 45 we felt really old I would not return to cancun I couldn't keep up.. The beaches and hotels rest. are great all brand new was in Cozumel last Feb.

  3. There are many many resorts in Cancun that do cater to families and children.  The Palace resorts like the moon and the cancun both have areas for kids. There are also many tours you can take in Cancun and around the area for kids. I do agree down town Cancun is for the more younger crowd in the 20's but we are 40 and going and there are a ton of 40 something people that go - you just have to research the resorts and tours you want. There is even a huge water park there and if your kids are 12 they can swim with the dolphins.

    Good luck

  4. I am from the United States have lived here before and after the hurricane...and the place is great! Cancun is bigger and better than ever

Well you have heard from the "King of Cancun" and now you are hearing from "Alicia in Cancun". We live here and might know a little more than your friend about the conditions here.

Lobster...yes not like Maine lobster but plenty of it. Go to Lorenzillo's...they are located next to a lobster farm.

  5. I would ignore your friend.

I've heard from friends that been there since and had no problems. My dh and I have survivied Wilma down there, and our resort wasn't too bad off. (Gala resort, Playa Del Carmen). After the hurricane left, we were out of the shelter and in a room that did not have the patio door blown off.

It is a place for the 20 to 30 somethings, more of the younger crowd. Hawaii would be more of a place for the older crowd. Not Mexico. There are resorts for families or just couples only. ect ect. They are tours to go see the Mayan Ruins. The are shops in town ect. (do not make eye contact to the natives!)  The place is awesome, warm,  happening, and the latin beat is MOVING! I loved it and can't wait to go back. :)

I would talk to a tripple AAA agent if you want to travel to Mex. They will help you and answer any questions you may have. Do not ask your friend who is biased against Mexico. Shame on her.
