Are the internet and mobile phones destroying language?

By this I mean the destruction of the English language by text speak and abbreviations.

Our children and their children are in danger of not being able to spell because of this

It really gets on my **** when I see questions using this illiterate text!

  1. Apparently we were separated at birth. It makes me foam at the mouth. If they think their employers, or college professors, are going to accept that garbage they're in for a rude awakening!  


  2. Yes its annoying, i do use it when i text or talk on AIM but other than that, im started to write like it now, but im correcting my self.

  6. uh no, it should be the job of the schools or the parents or maybe it's not even that big of a deal if they were taught how to balance text/internet speech versus writing essays.  

  7. Yes, our language is changing, but it has done so all through history, it has never not been changing. Can you imagine us speaking the way they did even 100 years ago? I'm sure they would not even understand us and be very upset with the way we speak, another 100 years from now, we won't understand them.

  14. That's what teachers are for...to teach kids how to spell properly.

    And the parents will play a part in it as well.
