  1. They are generally safe as is most of Paris. There is almost no violent crime in central Paris.

This is not to say there isn't violent crime around Paris. There is and it is multiplying at an alarming rate.  It is almost exclusively committed by young non-whites, mainly Muslim, living in the suburban housing projects that surround the city.

  2. Totally safe.

  3. They could be - being considered their size and populations there - but the security is extremely strong and nothing happens THERE - Suburbs are another story....

  4. Not really.  Just keep your  eyes and ears open (like you would anywhere at night) and keep your money in a money pouch in front of you with one hand near it (or inside of your zipped coat!).

  5. RER Châtelet-les-Halles used to be very unsafe at night indeed, but there has been far more police in the last few years and I find it relatively safe now. You should be fine in the métro and in the streets in that district but do keep an eye open for gangs at night. They do hang out there still. I know people who moved out of the neighborhood in the 90's because it had become unbearable, but it has improved thanks to increased police presence and cameras and during the day you'll be fine. Just be cautious at night and avoid isolated streets but no reason to panic either.

  6. Just about any stop, up to 10PM or so... but the Metro stops running just about the time the shows let out, so you may as well just figure on using a Taxi at night and being done with it.
