I'm told they carry 2 12 volt batteries but are they hooked up in parallel or series?

  1. All US Army vehicles use 24 volt electrical systems.

(This provides enough power for tactical radios.)

  2. They have two 12 volt batteries for a 12 volt system. The two batteries are used to increase cranking amps and to power a radio that may be attached inside.

  3. Electrical System:  24 volt, negative ground, 60 amps hooked up side by side under the passenger seat in the front for some basic models (remember they are dozens of variants that require more power). This isn't OPSEC since you can buy the older models from dealers or just look up the stuff online like I did for you.

  4. The high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle (HMMWV) runs on a 24-volt system. Batteries are located under the passenger seat and connected in series.

  5. Join the army and find out for yourself.
