Are the new Panasonic Neo PDP plasma TV's really just as energy efficient as comparably sized LCD TV's?

That's what the sales guy told me. I'm skeptical. This article suggests they made a big improvement but aren't there yet but doesn't have any hard data.

  1. They are very close indeed, within a few percentiles.

    I just tried to find a recent test I had seen, but I can't seem to google it properly, darn it. The test showed that on average the difference would work out to no more than $40/year.

    For the massive increase in picture quality that plasma gives you over LCD, I'll pay $40/year no problem.


  2. The Neo plasmas will have double the efficiency of previous plasma sets, meaning that they can even consume LESS electricity than similarly sized LCDs.
