Question:

Are the new interchange rules being introduced officially this week?

They trialed them last week & reports suggest that at least eight almost certain goals would have been given away by erring clubs.

It will be interesting to watch but clubs will probably toe the line better if any slip ups mean an easy shot at goal by the opposition.

  1. Yeah, the rule comes in this week .... with major penalties if clubs get it wrong.

Fines, free kick and a 50m

  2. Yes I am pretty sure that the new rules officially come into effect this week.

Did you watch Footy Classified on nine? There was some very interesting debate about the interchange rules. It is good to see the AFL doing something where there appeared to be a problem and perhaps in coming weeks once everybody gets used to it things will run smoothly but at the moment it is rather chaotic.

  3. They officially start this week much to the disgust of a few coaches (yes, including Malthouse!).

Had they officially started last week, eight 50 metre penalties would have been awarded.

They really need to think up a better system than the 'Post-It' notes they are using now...pfft!

  4. Yep, watch the sh it hit the fan this week, nothing surer.

  5. yes it is i think it sucks why dont they just go back to the old rules

  6. yeah they are and if they mess up it will be a free kick and a 50 which most likely will result into a goal

  7. the rule is just stupid

you can give a fee away if you have 5 on the bench

    what the

  8. Yes.

This week - & I bet the umps make the most stiff ups (as usuual).

  9. I dont get what all the fuss is with all of this interchange c**p.

Here at State League div 2 in QLD; before you get interchanged on, you tell the steward your number, they guy thats coming off and that's that....

it happens in State League.....so why are AFL clubs and fans doing a big hoo ha over it.

Fans at State League games probably dont even know that's the procedure (here in QLD anyway); so now that the AFL is doing the same thing...everyone is crying foul...now everyone here in QLD think that the State League is copying the AFL!

I dont know what its like in other states...but thats been the procedure since I started doing boundary umpiring in state league.

  10. Yes. They're in this week.

It'll be a toss-up who makes the most errors - the players or the officials.

  11. Yea the AFL is being really stupid this year. i dnt know why they dnt just leave it alone. sydney made a mistake they paid the price so lets all just move on and enjoy the footy. although collingwood is guna have a hard time on friday night.... they might just lose to geelong coz they dnt know what they are doing at interchange. Hopefully they get it right though. oh yea, and i agree with knuckles.... i bet the umpires do stuff up the most.
