  1. Yes and No.  To the extent that one believes that prayers will be answered or more readily answered simply by putting a note in the Wall, it is silly superstition.  In the best way it can be viewed as a physical manifestation of a prayer.  If the person dedicates his heart and thoughts properly, then that is prayer - the note is just a means of focusing one's prayers at a place where prayers are more readily accepted - the place of the Temple.

  2. Hello Lene,

I am not religious at all and yet I have been to the Western Wall.  I have seen people from all over the world, and not all Jewish, place their prayers in-between the stones.  It is tradition and it is with the hope that their prayer will come true.  Everybody needs something to believe in - for some people it is the payers in front of the Western Wall.

I can see where you are coming from, however - like throwing a coin in a wishing well.  Though, I think this is not quite the same thing.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Miche ; })

  4. it's prayer. we don't call that superstition, though some might. to us it's prayer or meditation.

  5. no, teh orthodox jews put notes in the cracks in the wall, well i pretty sure that its the prayers they have to god. my grandma goes to israel a lot

  6. The tradition of leaving notes started nearly 300 years ago when a rabbi sent his students with a prayer in writing because he was unable to make the journey

Its not not superstitious, but a tradition.
