Just curious. Has there been any study done on lottery winners, and how often the winners just had random numbers compared to the number of times people won with "their" numbers?

  1. Believe it or not, the odds remain the same in either situation. If the odds of winning are 25 million to one, then no matter what the player's chosen numbers are, the odds are 25 million to one for each set of numbers.

  2. Yeah, if you could work it out someone would have.

Each number that is drawn out is totally random, there is no pattern that you can work out.

  3. Heck no!  It's like flipping a coin and expecting it to come up heads after getting three tails, but that doesn't work like that because each flip is an individual event.

By repeating the same lottery numbers and hoping for better odds is the same thing.  Each draw is an individual event, and past results have zero effect.

  4. Good answer JeepDiva, the odds of winning the lottery are exactly the same no matter how the numbers are picked, presuming, of course, that the lottery is not rigged! LOL.

  5. Ah, the gambler's fallacy, my dear!  Odds don't change based on what you did last week.

  6. Please don't play the lottery. I know a few families who have won several million dollars so yes it does happen. But it all ended in tragedies for everyone involved. It's not worth the money if you lose family and friends in the end.

  7. We've been playing the same set of numbers for several years with no success. Occasionally we'll hit three numbers but never any big bucks. We keep trying, though.

  8. the odds are the same...
