Are the opposite ends of ethernet cables exactly the same?

i want to know if the two ends are shaped the same and are the same

  1. Same unless its a cross over cable (orange and green pairs swapped on one end)

  3. Yes, in a Straight-Through ethernet cable, both ends are identical and can be plugged in either way.

    Only one caveat, make sure that you have a straight-through ethernet cable!  It should say it on the cable.  If you have a straight through, the colored wires will be in the same sequence on both sides.  If you have a cross-over ethernet cable two pairs of colored wires will be swapped.  If you bought the cable yourself from a local store, there is a 99% chance that it is a straight-through cable.
