Or is Italy like the U.S.? The further North you go, the more uptight the people...?

  1. They weren't uptight when I was there at all.  Amazing city, amazing culture!  It's a beautiful place to visit, I can't wait to go back!

  2. Very nice, I was stationed in Vicenza for 3 years and went there every month.  Be careful of pickpockets and gypsies.  You won't know that they took your money until they are long gone.

  3. I'm italian and I'm writing from Milan, I can tell you that people in Venice, but also in other cities, are always friendly...the problem is that we don't speak a good english so, sometimes, it's difficult to communicate.

  4. That's been my experience.

  5. My personal experience is they are nice and friendly.

  6. Venetians are quite nice. They will put up with one's bad Italian and give you good directions. When I bought a few Euros worth of glass beads for a friend, the glassblower even gave me a demonstration; still have the photos on my computer to remind me.

  7. i dont know personally, but i heard they are very nice...Everything is wonderful and im sure youll be more into the scenery and culture rather then the people

  8. Before I visited Venice I was told that the Venetians were strange people, very insular. I've visited several times and I've found that they are extremely friendly and most have a great sense of humour.

  9. Very friendly... make an attempt to speak Italian (slowly, clearly) and you'll find that people are even more receptive.  The less like a sterotypical tourist you act, the better you'll be treated.

    Enjoy!

  10. I was in Venice in June '06, and I thought the people were very nice.

  11. the people in venice are generally tourists, its so hard to find a true venetian!!

  12. Absolutely ! Venice is one of the most romantic and touristy cities in the world and the Venetians really go out of their way to welcome you.

See if you can get a copy of the Lonely Planet Guide to Italy [USD$25] and also The Best of Venice [USD$ 15].  We travel a lot internationally and the Lonely Planet Guides are indispensable.

  13. My wife and i went to Italy and thought the Venetians are wonderful people. Almost everyone speaks english and will make you feel like home
