Are the pools getting smaller or are the swimmers getting bigger?

The pool is the same length but the depth of the pool is really deep which has some effect in producing many of the world record times

I think people have said the lap pool is like 2.5 - 3 meters deep and the diving pool is like 10 meters deep which is insane!

I've heard it said that the pool in Beijing is "fast" but what that means I don't know. I would have thought every pool was much the same.
