or are they categorized as "new" because they appear to be in new condition even if someone has previously owned them?

  1. Yes, I order from there all the time and they are brand new as long as you don't order from the previosuly owned section.  Also, be sure to take advantage of that Super saver free shipping.

  2. Yes, Amazon's book should be all new but once in a while someone complains that they got a used book and Amazon fixes the problem and send you a new one.

  3. I'm sure that they will resell returns, as almost any retailer would, if they are still in like-new condition.

I purchased a "new" DVD from them about 4 months ago.  But when I played the DVD, there was a very obvious scratch on it!  I don't really think amazon is in the business of shrink wrapping used DVD's and pawning them off as new, though.  It was a martial arts DVD, and a lot of martial artists produce and market their own DVD's.  So, I suspect the supplier was the one who re-shrink wrapped a previously viewed DVD.

  4. If you order directly from Amazon, they are new. If you order from an independent seller, they may or not be actually new.

  5. Yes they are new as long as they are stated "New".  Independent sellers also offer new books for sale - I sell on Amazon.  There are 8 different conditions that a seller can list it in: New, Used - Like New, Used - Very good, Used - Good, Used - Acceptable, Collectible - Like New, Collectible - Very Good, Collectible - Good and Collectible - Acceptable.

Just make sure to read the condition it is in and any comments there may be notated if you do purchase from an individual seller on Amazon.com

They are required to list honestly so you shouldn't have any issues as long as you confirm that you are purchasing a new book.  Purchasing from an independent seller may also be a lot less money then purchasing directly from the Amazon store.

Hope that information helps out! =)
