Are the rear axlenuts reverse-threaded on my late model Schwinn cruiser?

I can't seem to loosen those puppies! I don't want to strip the threads by tapping with a hammer in the wrong direction.

Thank you.

  1. The nuts loosen counterclockwise. You'll need to loosen one, then snug it up. Go to the other side and loosen that one, then reloosen the first side. The rear wheel is put on by the factory and is often VERY tight.

Make sure you use the correct sized wrench... 14mm or 15mm is probably correct.
