  1. now that the yankees suck i gues so...but maybe the rays too?

  2. Despite the defense mounted by Red Sox fans, I think the acquisition of Matsuzaka speaks for itself.  How many other teams could even have been in that race?

And the homegrown talent argument applies to NYY as well.  Most of the big names from the last string of championships were homegrown.  Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettite, Williams, off the top of my head.

Sorry I'm an O's fan and NYY and BOS are both evil, not the least because their fans come to Camden Yards all pretend they liked the team years ago.

  3. No... Listen to what Rob said cuz he is exactly right....Most of the red sox players came up through the minors like Pedroia and Ellsbury the only real player they got because of their money was dice k and was he worth it?YES!!!! getting kotsay and byrd doesnt sound like evil empire to me at all..

  4. funny! its the red sox fans who are annoying!

  5. The Red Sox are one of those teams with the ability to spend a lot of money. I think baseball as a sport suffers a lot due to the fact that smaller market teams can't compete payroll wise with the bigger markets. And since we won these last two championships, our fan base has become the most annoying in professional sports (especially when you remember that we are also the Patriots and Celtics fans). This was just plain unavoidable. I don't think most people can fully appreciate the degree of suffering and misery that had built up in our sports' souls.

But, as several other posters have pointed out, the Red Sox have not been winning championships because they bought them. The money lets them compete year in and year out, but there are quite a few other teams with similar resources. The Red Sox have won championships because boy genius Theo and the rest of the brain trust truly know what they are doing. After about three decades of cursing every third thing the Red Sox management does, it has been almost odd (though pleasantly) the past few years to really look at decisions, even when I don't think they seem like the best idea, and still say "Well, these guys are clearly smarter about baseball than I am."

The Red Sox current success is a result of a brilliant farm system. Their championship teams have had a lot of players developed in the farm system. Even a guy like Becket--the Red Sox didn't just go out and "buy" him. They traded Hanley Ramirez for him, a prospect they selected and developed, who is probably the most exciting young player in the Majors. Of course, I have dreams they will re-sign him in a few years. I won't deny there are aspects of an evil empire in the Red Sox.

  6. Nooo.

I'm a Yankees fan, we're always gonna be the Evil Empire and proud of it...we love that moniker.

the Red Sox are just plain evil.

  7. Yeah they are just as bad. They buy anybody they want just like the Yanks, although the Sox do have a good farm system.

The Red Sox are just boring nowdays-it's weird but ever since the won the series in 04 i stopped keeping up with then. I watch the Cubs and always have and always will. I did love Nomar, Milar, Pedro, and Manny. h**l i loved Boggs, Burks, and Clemens...they've had some great players. Now a lot of people want them to lose, nobody wants to see the same team win chmp. after chmp.

  8. The Red Sox and Yankees are the new evil empire.

  9. Since they won their world series I put the Yankees and the Red Sox in the same "evil empire" category. Both have bought their way to success.

Then again I'm from Philadelphia, so any team that consistently wins championships is "evil" to me.

  10. NO More like the New Shrieffs in Town.

  11. The Red Sox are in 4th place in spending, behind the Yankees, Mets and Tigers, and only 10% ahead of the Dodgers, White sox, Angels and Cubs. Did they go after Sabathia? Texiera?   No they got Kotsay and Byrd.  Didn't they dump Ramirez for Bay when Manny started acting like an idiot?   That sure doesn't look like an evil empire to me.

You guys need to do your homework and stop hating. The Sox used to be one of the big spenders, but now they're just one of the top 10. Deal with it.
