  1. I live in the state of Veracruz & have driven that road several times.  It is "ok"  It is NOT an auto pista, and is not as good as the road SOUTH of Tampico going down to Veracruz.  The last time I travelled this road was Feb 07.There were some areas of poor pavement, but they are constantly working on it.  Once you get out of Tampico, the road is better.  Be  careful going through Tampico...that place is under constant construction, with detours and missing road signs... I HATE driving through Tampico!  Maybe things will be better there now.  South of Tuxpan...the road is a delight...but you won't get to drive that !  The plan is to make it a 4 lane autopista all the way to Reynosa.  The map says 9 hrs, but add an hr and a half...this site is always too optimistic on time.  Don't forget your Mexican car insurance and that you will need the car permit.  It is not the best road in mexico, but it isn't horrid either.
