  1. I mean they really were always contenders, its the injuries that always kill them. I don't get why people think that now they got Artest he will keep them from being injured, and all of the suddened stop being crazy and a cancer to a team. He is Ron Artest (CRAZY) and Yao and Tracy and always injured. I mean with some miracle that Artest changes and they both stay healthy then yes they can definitely be contenders. I would at least love to see them get out of the first round!!!

  2. they have a huge chance.

last year ming and mcgrady were expected to, "literally become the next kobe-shaq," but injurys ended it.  they're only a year late, plus they have others on there team

    (artest, sasha)

  3. Yes, if they're all healthy and Artest mixes well with their current team.  I think Artest has calmed down a bit now since getting axed for a year for that brawl in Detroit.

  4. yes.

now they have good offense AND good defense. as long as t-mac, yao and artest stay healthy.

  5. Without a doubt. TMac, Yao, and now Ron Artest. Although the West is so heavy with talent you never know. They will have a great record, but we'll have to see what goes down come playoff time.

  6. Of course. They were contenders last year but when Yao got hurt it was pretty slim. They went on and won 22 games winning 10 without him. They forced a game 6 with the Jazz without him. The Rockets are to close just to stop believing.

    WE BELIEVE

  7. I do think the Houston Rockets are title contenders next season.

Let's face it NBA fans the Rockets are now in the race with the Lakers and Hornets for that number 1 seed come playoff time.

They upgraded their team without sacrificing too much, they added a three point threat in Brent Barry, especially in the post season. Plus they added Ron Artest who can guard Kobe and other threats from the shooting guard, small forward, and power forward positions.

(For all the people that criticize the rockets for last years playoff performance)

Look, the Rockets did not have their team that they planned to start the playoffs with, they did not have Yao for the whole postseason and if your going against the very big and physical team like Utah with out one of your superstars especially a player that could get rebounds that the smaller rockets (Scola, Landry, Hayes, Harris) could not get because of the height and could give you 20 + points. The odds of you winning that series is going to be very slim. They also did not have Rafer Alston at the beginning of the postseason which affected their offense deeply because he basically runs the offense for the Rockets. Carl Landry, who was a big part of the 22 game winning streak and why the rockets had the 4th overall seed also missed the first 2 games. Players like Steve Francis where injured, but he could of helped out the first 2 games at the point guard position when Rafer did not play and the only point guard available was the back up point guard in Bobby Jackson and the rookie Aaron Brooks.

If the Rockets can re-sign Carl Landry and convince Mt. Mutombo to play another year, you look at a team like this:

Pg: Rafer Alston*, (healthy) Steve Francis, and an more experienced Aaron Brooks

Sg: Tracy Mcgrady*, Brent Barry, Luther Head

Sf: Ron Artest*, Shane Battier, Steve Novak

Pf: Luis Scola*, Chuck Hayes, Joey Dorsey

C: Yao Ming*, Carl Landry, Dikimbe Mutombo

    * Starters

I don't know about you but if I'm a GM of any team in the NBA I'll be pretty scared of that team come playoff time.
