  1. Don't you realize the value of history, tourism, and good will they bring to you?

You cannot replace that and if you give it up you will regret it forever.

People the world over are descendants of England and The Empire and they look to you to keep their heritage and the pomp and circumstance.

You might as well ask us the change Yankee Doodle's name to Justin because it sounds hokey.

You already have an elected head of state that shares the duties but really does the work; right?

  2. But what would we have to giggle at?  Who would wear such silly outfits on public occasions?   Who would there be as a subject of salacious gossip?

Spare a thought for the fawning journalists, too, the paparazzi, the tabloid editors.  They have a living to earn.  Would you cast them on the scrap heap, you heartless thing?

Our very own Mary Mac, over in Dublin, is a really nice lady (some say) but I can't imagine her ever being an industry like the Mountbatten-Windsors!

Besides, unless we had a non-executive president (again, like Mary Mac) the electorate would have to choose very much more carefully than at present...

  3. Not past ,Leave them be.

  4. We have had enough change over the last 30 Years .Our systems for all its faults is one that envied far beyond our shores.. We elect to keep Our Royal Family .

  5. No,they aren't,they are good value for money and a superior system than that in place in america, where they have a documented inarticulate liar as their head of state and a vice president who has built up his own company,Haliburton,as part of his personal war spoils from Iraq.

  6. No defiantly not and they never will be and by the way knowitall you don't know it all as The Prime Minister is not the Head of state that is the queen Gordon Brown is Head of the government

  7. no! they rock! :)

  8. No, they should be kept, simply for entertainment purposes mind.

  9. We had an experiment with a combined Hereditary Head of Government + State. The Lord Protector's son (an idiot put in power by his successful father) proved that you need an Hereditary Head of State, and an Elective Head of Government for necessary separation of Powers.

The Royal Family have style (timeless) rather than fashion (comes and goes).

The Hereditary Principle has the advantage of Continuity, which has no sell by date. The Democratic Principle provides a Political Mandate to Rule, which has a sell by date is five years (renewable).

Best of both Worlds = Elected Head of Government + Hereditary Head of State

Worst of all Worlds = Hereditary Head of Government + State

History repeats itself. The first is tragedy, the second is farce.

Cromwell was a tragedy. The Coups d'Etat in Florida 2000 & 2004 was a farce.

  10. yes the sponge of all of us. A new jet now when will it ever end. This family should hand back their wealth to the country they have stolen it from. I do not think they should be taking from the system them and their hangers on disgust me.

  11. i think they are past it, yes.  no-one cares anymore, they're money wasters who do no good that i can see.

  12. There is no need for them to be replaced they can simply retire. We have a system of Government in place which is more than capable of running the country .

  13. You are so right - we could then spend a year voting for someone to run for our elected Head of State every 4 years or so and with a bit of luck we could come up with someone like Gordon Brown whom we could show off with pride to visiting dignitaries and say "this is the best we can do".

Don't you remember that we have tried giving up the Monarchy in favour of a beloved "Protector"?

It was the ordinary man in the street who realised that Oliver Cromwell wasn't such a good idea after all.

In fact, why stop with him, if we leave the post open, we could have someone like Mugabe or Sadam, step in and keep us all, well and truly, loyal citizens

  14. No. Antiques increase in value as they age.

  15. What is their function?

In the past - it was to provide leadership and a point of final decision.

In the modern day - we have Parliament and an elected democratic system, Royalists say tradition needs to be maintained - Royalty and it trappings attract tourism and maintain an outmoded class structure based on birth not merit, whats more we like mugs sponsor it,

Why should anyones value to society be based on accident of birth rather than personal achievement.

By the way - we do have an elected head of state - the Prime Minister.

Veonica - sorry  remember that we put people like Sadam, Idi Amin, Gaddafi, Mugabe and so on in Power - provided arms and propped them up - for our own ends, look at the countries which are the world leaders now - China, India America, Korea - spot the Monarch.........

  16. NO. NO. NO.God save the Queen. Better than the di*khead Gordon Brown.

  17. Yes probably

    but

    No.

  18. They are tradition and cheaper than elected politicians.

  19. No, they have been around for several hundred years, and, I hope they are here for many years to come.
